Parents apply for a Parent PLUS loan at studentloans.gov. They should receive a decision from Direct Loans online once they complete the application.
Eligibility for a Parent PLUS Loan is initially determined by completing a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) for the appropriate year. Parents will need to wait until after their student is packaged to find out how much they are eligible for.
Parents will also need to complete a Master Promissory Note (MPN) to receive a PLUS loan. The MPN explains the terms and conditions of your loan and is your legally binding agreement to repay your loan(s). The MPN can be used to make one or more loans for one or more academic years (up to 10 years). You may be able to complete the MPN online at studentloans.gov.
You will be required to use your Federal Personal Identification Number (PIN) to complete the MPN online. For the Parent Plus loan, a parent can apply for a Federal Personal Identification Number (Pin) online at http://www.pin.ed.gov.
