How do I manually connect my computer to "bsusecure"?

Connecting Your Computer to "bsusecure"

Connecting to "bsusecure" using Windows 8/8.1

It is a requirement that the device uses Windows to configure wireless networks. Third party software such as "Intel PROset utility" can not be used to connect to wireless networks.

1. Click on the wireless icon in the system tray (down by the clock) to reveal a list of wireless networks as shown:

 

2. Click on 'Bsusecure' and select 'Connect'

3. The network will now attempt to connect, enter your Ball State Username and Password when prompted.

4. After connecting, press the Windows Key (on the keyboard) to switch to the Windows 8 Start Menu screen (with the application tiles).

5. Begin typing "Network and Sharing Center" to bring up a search, and click Enter when 'Network and Sharing Center' appears.

6. Choose 'Wi-Fi (bsusecure)' as shown:

 

7. Click on Wireless Properties as shown:

 

8. Click on the Advanced Settings Button (as shown):

9. Check the box for Specify Authentication Mode

10. Select User Authentication from the drop-down menu

11. Click the Save Credentials button

12. Enter your BSU username and password when prompted

 

13. Click OK to close the Advanced Settings window.

14. Click on the Settings button in the bsusecure Wireless Network Properties window

15. Check the box for Validate Server Certificate

16. Uncheck the box for Connect to These Servers (if it is not already unchecked)

17. Check the box for AddTrust External CA Root as shown: (NOTE: if you do not see this in the list then ignore this step)

 

21. In the Protected EAP Properties Window, click Configure.

22. Uncheck Automatically Use My Windows Login Name And Password and Click OK.  (If you log in to your computer with your BSU domain account, this step is not needed.)

23. Press OK to close all dialog boxes.

 

 

 

Connecting to "bsusecure" using Windows 7 or Vista

It is a requirement that the device uses Windows to configure wireless networks. Third party software such as "Intel PROset utility" can not be used to connect to wireless networks.

1. Open Network and Sharing Center by right-clicking on the wireless icon in the system tray (down by the clock) as shown:

 

2. Click Manage Wireless Networks (located on the left side of the box that appears when clicking 'Network and Sharing Center'):

 

3. Click Add

4. Select Manually Create A Network Profile

5. Enter the following information (as shown below):

      - Network Name: bsusecure

      - Security Type: WPA2-Enterprise

      - Encryption Type: AES

      - Security Key/Pass Phrase: Leave Blank

 

6. Check "Connect even if the network is not broadcasting"

7. Click Next

8. Click Change Connection Settings

9. Click on the Security Tab

10. Make sure the Authentication Method is set for Microsoft: Protected EAP (PEAP)

11. Click on the Advanced Settings Button (as shown):

 

12. Check the box for Specify Authentication Mode

15. Enter your BSU username and password when prompted

 

16. Click OK to close the Advanced Settings window

17. Click on the Settings button in the bsusecure Wireless Network Properties window

Connecting to "bsusecure" using Windows XP: 

It is a requirement that the device uses Windows to configure wireless networks. Third party software such as "Intel PROset utility" can not be used to connect to wireless networks.

NOTE: You MUST have Windows XP Service Pack 3 (SP3) in order to connect to bsusecure. Contact the Helpdesk if you are unsure of your Service Pack.

1. Click on the Start Menu and open Control Panel

2. Locate and open 'Network Connections' in the Control Panel as shown:

 

3. Highlight your wireless network connection (by clicking on it one time) and choose Change Settings of this Connection on the left as shown:

 

4. Click on the Wireless Networks tab at the top of the window that appears.

5. Click on Add as shown:

 

6. Enter the following:

      - Network Name (SSID): bsusecure

      - Check the box for 'Connect even if this network is not broadcasting'

      - Network Authentication: WPA2

      - Data Encryption: AES

 

6. Click on the Authentication Tab

7. Change the EAP Type to Protected EAP (PEAP).

8. Uncheck boxes for Authenticate as computer when.... and Authenticate as guest....

7. Click on Properties

8. Check the box for Validate Server Certificate and AddTrust External CA Root as shown:

 

9. Click Configure

10. Uncheck the box for Automatically Use My Windows Logon Name and Password

11. Click OK, OK, and OK to close all remaining boxes.

12. A bubble may appear with a message "Click here to select a certificate or other credentials...." - Click on this bubble to reveal a new window.

13. Enter your Ball State Username and Password, leaving Domain blank as shown:

 

14. You should now be connected to BSUsecure. Note: You may have to wait up to 60 seconds for the network to connect properly.

Connecting to "bsusecure" using Mac OSX:  
 
NOTE: You MUST have Mac OSX 10.5+ in order to connect to bsusecure. Contact the Helpdesk if you need further assistance.

1. Locate the 'Wireless Icon' located in the top right corner of the screen (next to the clock):

2. Click on this icon to reveal a drop-down list. Click on 'Join Other Network' as shown:

3. Fill in the information as shown on the form. Note: Use your Ball State Username and Password in the 'Username' and 'Password' fields.

4. Choose 'Join' to complete the process.
