I use Windows XP. What do I need to do to prepare my computer for use with Outlook 365?

As Ball State's Outlook 365 email system is kept up to date, users who use Windows XP will need to make sure that they are up to date in order to prevent disruption of service. Windows XP users will need to make sure to take the following steps to ensure continued compatibility with Office 365:

  • Internet Explorer must be upgraded to version 8

  • Root Certificates must be updated (KB931125)

Microsoft ended support for Internet Explorer 7 in October of 2012. Because of this if you are using IE7 you will need to upgrade to to IE8. To do this please visit the Microsoft Internet Explorer homepage. Alternatively, you may visit the Technology Helpdesk website to create a Web-ticket for assistance or call 765-285-1517 to speak with a representative.

While the root certificates needed for Office 365 are automatically updated through Windows Update on Windows Vista, 7, and 8, XP users must install them manually. To do so, consult the article to update root certificates in Windows XP. If you need assistance with this installation you may visit the Technology Helpdesk website to create a Web-ticket for assistance or call 765-285-1517 to speak with a representative.
