Can not access Banner on a MAC. Java error will not allow you to access Banner on a MAC.

** OIT recommends using Safari on Apple computers when accessing Banner. **

Banner works on almost all versions of Java on Apple computers. Three causes can be preventing you from from accessing Banner. The first cause would be Java is not enabled. The second cause would be could be the Java cache file, which may need to be cleared. The first and likely least cause would be Java is not installed.

 

How To Enable Java

Instructions for OSX 10.6 -

1. Click on Go, and then Utilities in Finder.


2. Scroll down to Java Preferences and click it.



3. Place a check mark in the Enable applet plug-in and Web Start applications.


4. Go to section below on how to test Java.

 

Instructions for OSX 10.7 and 10.8 -

1. Click on System Preferences, and select Java icon in the last row.

 

 

2. The Java Control Panel will open click the Security tab up top.


3. Place a check mark in Enable java content in the browser.

Testing Java Functionality


1. Verify Java is working by clicking on this link. Java's website will open and load a test applet as pictured below. Click Run to

    complete the Java test. 


2. If Java is functioning the box below will appear on the Java webpage.

Clearing the Java Cache


Instructions for OSX 10.6 -


1. Click on Go, and then Utilities in Finder.

3. Click Network, and then click Delete Files.


4. Place a check mark in both boxes and click OK.


5. The caches are now clear. Try Banner to see if you can now access it.

2. The Java Control Panel will open click the Security tab up top.

 

3. Click the Delete Files button and the check box pictured below will open. Place a check mark in Trace and Log Files

    and Cached Applications and Applets and click OK.


4. The caches are now clear. Try Banner to see if you can now access it.

If the issue remains unresolved, we will need to escalate.
